Privacy at a glance W4MSI Logger does not require an account, does not contain advertising, and does not operate a central cloud service for storing your Amateur Radio logs or recorded Journeys. Core app data is primarily stored on your device.

1. Overview

W4MSI Logger is an Amateur Radio logging application developed and published by Dustin Smith (W4MSI). It provides General Log and TOTA activation logging, optional GPS Journey Recording, mapping, target-tile status and alerts, and ADIF and GPX export.

This policy applies to information handled by W4MSI Logger on supported devices. By using optional features such as Journey Recording or online mapping, you may permit the app to access information needed to provide those features.

2. Information W4MSI Logger Handles

Depending on the features you use, the app may handle:

Amateur Radio log information Callsigns, operator callsign, transmit power, band, mode, frequency, signal reports, timestamps, activation information, TOTA tiles, and Tile-to-Tile information.
Location information Approximate and precise device location when you choose to use location-dependent features such as Journey Recording and mapping.
Journey information Recorded coordinates, timestamps, GPS accuracy, and related track information used to build a Journey and GPX export.
App settings Settings such as operator callsign, default transmit power, and app preferences stored for your convenience.

W4MSI Logger does not require you to create an account and does not request a password, billing profile, or social-media login.

3. Location Data and Journey Recording

Journey Recording is an optional user-initiated feature. When you start Journey Recording, W4MSI Logger uses precise location and may access location in the background while Journey Recording remains active, including while the screen is locked or the app is not in active use.

Location is used to provide features including:

  • recording your GPS Journey during an activation;
  • determining your current Maidenhead grid tile;
  • determining whether you are inside or outside the selected TOTA target tile;
  • providing target-tile entry and exit status and alerts;
  • displaying your position and recorded Journey on the Journey Map; and
  • creating a GPX export of your recorded Journey.

Journey Recording is not required for ordinary contact logging or for creating and completing a TOTA activation. You can stop Journey Recording at any time. W4MSI Logger does not use location data for advertising or behavioral advertising.

Device operating systems control location permissions. If you deny or later revoke the required permission, location-dependent features may be unavailable until permission is restored.

4. Local Storage

W4MSI Logger primarily stores logs, activations, Journey points, and application settings locally on your device. The developer does not operate a W4MSI Logger account system or a central cloud database that receives and stores your Amateur Radio logs or Journey tracks.

Data stored locally may remain on the device until you delete the relevant information, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app, subject to the behavior of your device and operating system.

5. Online Maps and Network Data

Some mapping features use online map resources. When the app requests map styles, tiles, or related online content, the map service may receive ordinary network information associated with the request, such as your IP address, request time, and basic request/device metadata.

This network information is handled by the applicable map or network provider under that provider's own terms and privacy practices. W4MSI Logger does not use these map requests to build an advertising profile about you.

Previously loaded map information may also remain temporarily in device or application cache.

6. ADIF and GPX Exports

W4MSI Logger allows you to create ADIF and GPX files. Export is initiated by you. After an export is created, you control where the file is saved, shared, imported, or transmitted using your device and any third-party application or service you choose.

Once you provide exported information to another application, website, person, or service, that recipient's privacy practices apply to the copy you provided.

7. Data Sharing, Advertising, and Analytics

No advertising No sale of personal data No W4MSI cloud log account

W4MSI Logger does not sell your personal information and does not use your precise location for advertising. The app does not contain advertising functionality.

W4MSI Logger does not intentionally share your locally stored logs or Journey tracks with third parties. Information may leave the device when you intentionally export or share it, or when the app makes network requests required to obtain online map content.

8. Security

W4MSI Logger is designed to minimize unnecessary transmission of user information by keeping core logging data locally on the device. Configured online map resources are requested over secure HTTPS connections.

No software or storage system can guarantee absolute security. Device security, backups, operating-system protections, and any third-party applications to which you export data can also affect the security of your information.

9. Data Retention and Deletion

Because W4MSI Logger does not require an account and primarily stores app data locally, the developer generally does not possess a server-side copy of your logs or Journey data to delete.

You can remove locally stored information by using available deletion functions in the app, clearing the app's local storage, or uninstalling the application. Exported files must be deleted from the location or third-party service where you chose to save them.

10. Children

W4MSI Logger is an Amateur Radio utility and is not specifically designed to collect personal information from children. The app does not require an account, does not contain advertising, and does not intentionally create behavioral profiles of users.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as W4MSI Logger gains new features, integrates new services, or changes how information is handled. Material changes will be reflected on this page by updating the “Last updated” date.

The app's Google Play Data safety disclosures and this Privacy Policy are intended to remain consistent with the current behavior of the application.
